Andrea Tariang is certainly a destiny’s child as she is making her debut with Amitabh Bachchan starrer PINK. Although she plays one of the protagonists in the film and the major part is hogged by Taapsee Pannu & Big B, but her role is equally important for the story to take ahead. Andrea doesn’t have command over Hindi and learnt it while filming for PINK.
In an exclusive conversation the slender beauty spoke her heart out on bagging a film like PINK to struggling to speak Hindi as well as getting to know who Mr. Amitabh Bachchan is.
Excerpts from the interview:
Not coming from the film background, how did you bag a role in Amitabh Bachchan starrer PINK?
It’s a long story, actually I have my own band in my hometown and I sing as well. I had come to Mumbai for some work with respect to singing and then Shoorjit Sircar wanted someone from my region to play a particular role and then convinced my dad and he called me from my hometown that I should give an audition here in Mumbai. However, I gave the audition and it was all in Hindi. I am not fluent in Hindi I was terrified and took hours to say one line. Somehow I managed to give it a shot and then I was packing my bags to head to my hometown and to my surprise I got a call from production house that I have been selected for the role.
Were you aware of your role and Mr. Bachchan’s presence?
I said yes thinking if I do the film I will get some pocket money. I didn’t know who Amitabh Bachchan was, I had heard of his name. I don’t understand Hindi so I haven’t watched his films and then when I got to know that I will be working with the Amitabh Bachchan I started watching some of his films and my dad said he is a huge icon in Bollywood industry.
So how was your first meeting with Amitabh Bachchan?
It was nice; he made me feel so comfortable. I was scared and nervous as to how will I narrate my dialogues in front of him but it was easy and good to communicate with him.
“I didn’t know the power of Amitabh Bachchan before I signed PINK”
Did he compliment you as this was your debut film?
He liked my performances in several places. There was only one solo scene I had in court that I had with Mr. Bachchan sir and he liked my performance.
Have you signed any other film?
No I haven’t signed anything. Nothing has been offered to me. But yes I want to do films now. But before that I want to learn Hindi so that I can communicate well.
As you have a band and you are a singer, do you plan to sing in Bollywood?
If I am offered why wouldn’t I sing?
Any actoe you aspire to work with?
I don’t know, at present I feel I have worked with Mr. Bachchan in my debut film what else can I ask for. I don’t know whoever I am offered next with. I can’t say.
