Indian filmmakers go out of their way to get a holiday weekend release for their movies and if it’s a festival, all the more better, as the cine-goers are in a festive mood and ready to splurge. While many films go on to set records, a festive window doesn’t guarantee success.

Here’s a list of Bollywood films, which released and will release on festivals this year:

© MovietalkiesHoli: On Holi this year, four films hit the screens – Hey Bro, Dirty Politics, Badmashiyaan and Coffee Bloom however, none of the films passed with flying colours and all of them bombed at the box-office.

© MovietalkiesGood Friday: Good Friday saw the release of YRF’s Sushant Singh Rajput starrer Detective Byomkesh Bakshy. While the film got rave reviews by critics, it failed to set the cash registers ringing.

© MovietalkiesEid-Ul-Fitr: Bollywood superstar Salman Khan marked his presence once again on Eid with Kabir Khan’s Bajrangi Bhaijaan and like always, the festival proved lucky for the Dabangg dude as the movie marked its entry in the prestigious 300 crore club. The movie also starred Harshaali Malhotra, Kareena Kapoor Khan and Nawazuddin Siddiqui.

© MovietalkiesRaksha Bandhan: Kabir Khan’s Phantom and Nila Madhab Panda’s Kaun Kitney Paani Mein released on Raksha Bandhan this year. While Phantom starred Katrina Kaif and Saif Ali Khan, KKPM had an ensemble cast comprising Kunal Kapoor, Radhika Apte, Saurabh Shukla and Gulshan Grover.

© MovietalkiesJanamashtami: Sequel to Anees Bazmee’s laugh riot Welcome, Welcome Back released a day before Janamashtami and the film collected a total of Rs. 112.45 crore at the box-office.

© MovietalkiesGanesh Chaturthi: Three films released on Ganesh Chaturthi this year – Katti Batti, Meeruthiya Gangster and MSG-2: The Messenger. However, all the three movies failed to work their magic on the audiences.

© MovietalkiesEid-ul-Adha: Kapil Sharma’s debut film Kis Kisko Pyaar Karoon released on Eid-ul-Adha this year along with Madhur Bhandarkar’s Calendar Girls and Bhaag Johnny. While Kapil’s film got a double thumbs-up from the cine-goers, the other two failed miserably.

© MovietalkiesDussehra: Vikas Bahl’s Shahid Kapoor-Alia Bhatt starrer Shaandaar will release on Dussehra (October 22) and the film is getting a solo release. The movie revolves around a destination wedding and the lead pair plays insomniacs in it.

© MovietalkiesDiwali: Prem Ratan Dhan Payo is certainly this year’s most anticipated film and Salman’s next will illumine the screens on Diwali this year. Directed by Sooraj Barjatya, the film also stars Sonam Kapoor and Neil Nitin Mukesh among others.

© MovietalkiesChristmas: A week before Christmas, Rohit Shetty’s Dilwale and Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Bajirao Mastani will clash at the box-office and this is one battle everyone is waiting for with bated breath. Dilwale stars Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol, Varun Dhawan and Kriti Sanon, while Bajirao Mastani, which is a period drama, features Ranveer Singh, Priyanka Chopra and Deepika Padukone.
