'Consider SRK and Salman my co-actors, not stars'

Unlike many actors who go gaga over working with the Khans of Bollywood, Nawazuddin Siddiqui tries to keep his head in place. The Badlapur actor says he does not want to think about the prominence of big stars like Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan as he considers them as colleagues when he is performing.

Nawazuddin, who plays a policeman in Rahul Dholakia’s next, has just completed his first schedule of Raees along with Shah Rukh Khan. “When I am on set, Shah Rukh and Salman are co-actors for me. If I start thinking I am working with Salman then as an actor, I would not be able to improvise the character I am playing. During shooting, I do not want to think about with whom I am working as it will corrupt my performance,” he told IANS as he shared his experience of working with both the Khans.

Nawazuddin shared screen space with Salman Khan in Kabir Khan’s Bajrangi Bhaijaan. The film wasn’t just a blockbuster at the box office but was also lauded for Nawazuddin’s impeccable performance. “I think as an actor my work is to give the best performance. If I continue to think about Shah Rukh and Salman as stars then I am not showing the proper respect to their characters as well as mine. You should be honest at your work,” he added.

The 49-year-old actor, who is riding on the success of his last outing Manjhi: The Mountain Man, will be seen with Amitabh Bachchan in Sujoy Ghosh’s next.

“I am very much fortunate to work with Mr Bachchan. I have never even thought in my dream that he would wish to work with me. It’s a good luck that I am getting to work with such a big actor in my next film.”

As per the reports it was a request from Big B himself to director Sujoy Ghosh asking the filmmaker to cast him with Nawazuddin. Ghosh has finally scripted a tale that has both Amitabh and Nawazuddin in interesting roles. If reports are to be believed the film is titled Kerala and is a thriller set in the South Indian state.
