Hard Kaur is one of India’s leading musicians. She has introduced hip hop to the musical genre and taken it to greater heights by giving it a pop sensibility.
She rose to fame with a hit single for the movie JOHNNY GADAR and continued giving hits which included Supawoman, Glassy, Bombay Deewana and few more.
Not only did she steal million hearts with singing and composing, but also made her presence felt with acting. She acted in Akshay Kumar-Anushka Sharma starrer PATIALA HOUSE.
Being the only female to get into rapping and hip hop, she is coined as sherni in the music industry. And very recently, the singer also launched her single named ‘Sherni’.
Speaking about her single, Hard Kaur says, “Sherni is a song on women empowerment, where I urge all the women to be strong and be shernis in real life.”
Furthermore speaking about the subject she adds, “I represent female empowerment to my core. I wrote this song four years ago but didn’t release it till now as I didn’t think people were ready for this kind of track. We don’t really get much support for this kind of material because it’s not commercial. So now that the digital scene is so big, artists like me can afford to drop our music independently and let our fans enjoy our true work.”
On being asked what made her choose such a subject, she opines, “With all the bullshit that’s been happening in our country regarding rape, sexism and ill treatment towards women, I think we are done taking all this crap. Enough! We all need to be shernis and let the world know that.”
When asked that she hasn’t been given her due in the industry as Honey Singh and Badshah have become popular even though they have come late she added, “They know how to market themselves well. While I don’t feel rapping is only about daru and cliched stuff. Rapping has been misunderstood by all. I am happy the way I am being appreciated and loved. Where is Honey Singh now? Isn’t these fame shot lived.“
Having acted in only one film, we asked her if she is open for acting assignment and she averred, “I haven’t been offered anything but I will take it up if I am given an opportunity.”
