Luv Ranjan who has just delivered a walloping surprise success at the box office with Pyaar Ka Punchnaama 2 is in no hurry to carry the franchise ahead.
“It took me three years to put together a sequel. It may take me another three years or even more to come up with another Punchnama film,” confesses Luv Ranjan, as he gets set to celebrate the film’s success with his producer Abhishek Pathak, cast, team and friends on Wednesday with a party.
“Its a small unplanned celebration for those who cared for our film and believed in my belief that successful films can be made without big stars,” says Luv whose previous film the seriously-toned Akaash Vani about a marital misalliance was a box office failure.
But Luv Ranjan is undeterred by the suggestion that a non-Punchnama film may not work at the box office. “The fear of the unknown cannot turn me into a creature of the comfort zone. So what if Akaash Vani didn’t turn out the way we expected? I won’t keep making Punchnama tales all the time just because they are a safe bet.”
Ranjan reveals plans to now move bag and baggage to Uttar Pradesh, for a rom-com.
Wonders the director, “Why is it that whenever we are shown the young in Meerut, Varanasi or Kanpur, they’re always wielding desi guns and mouthing maa-bahen ki gaalis? There is much more to the youth in UP than violence. I am afraid the world of Vishal Bhardwaj’s Omkara is not the only truth about the young in Uttar Pradesh.”
Luv Ranjan wants to show the dreams aspirations, yearnings and goals of UP’s youngsters.
Ask him which of the six lead actors in Pyaar Ka Punchnama 2 will feature in his UP rom-com and Luv Ranjan sighs, “See, that is the problem. I think all of them Kartik Aaryan, Nusrat Bhrucha, Sunny Singh, Sonnalli Saygal, Omkar Kapoor and Ishita Sharma are talented. But all of them can’t fit into every film I make. They’ve to find their own destiny. But I’ll be definitely be working with all of them at various points in my career.”
