© Provided by Hindustan Times After the Mumbai police issued summons to three-time National award winning actress Kangana Ranaut, asking her to record her statement in connection with the FIR filed by actor Hrithik Roshan against unknown impersonators, the actress’ lawyer said that she will not accept the summon as the police have “no legal right” to ask her to appear before them.
On Thursday, the actress’ counsel advocate Rizwan Siddiquee issued a detailed statement claiming that the police had “no right to summon either his client Kangana or her sister Rangoli” adding that the police instead should have acted in accordance with the provisions of the Criminal Procedure Code and requested Kangana for some time suitable to both parties so that her statement could have been recorded.
On Wednesday, Hrithik registered an FIR with the Mumbai police’s cybercrime cell against unknown persons who he claimed had created a fake email account in his name and had been “impersonating” him. In his FIR, Roshan also named Kangana and claimed that the impersonator/s had been exchanging emails with Kangana through the fake account.
Following the FIR, the police issued summons not just to Kangana but also to her sister, asking them to visit the cyber police station at the Bandra Kurla Complex and record their statements as witnesses.
Siddiquee, however, claimed that while Kangana had already made it clear that she will cooperate with the cops in the investigations, the witness summons sent to her and her sister was “patently illegal, as no woman can ever be called to the police station to record her statement”.
Siddiquee also questioned why the actor chose to wait for over seven months before reporting the impersonator to the police and said that was not Hrithik, but Kangana, who was the aggrieved party in the ongoing feud between the two.
Hrithik “conveniently chose to divert all media attention to a so-called imposter to deviate from the main subject of having criminally threatened my client and having intimidated her, without any provocation or good reason at all. As a matter of fact it is my client who has actually suffered and has yet maintained a dignified silence so far. Things were started by Mr. Hrithik Roshan…,” Siddiquee’s statement read.
He also said that Kangana, was “most distressed about Hrithik and the police having dragged Rangoli” into the matter. “Rangoli was not interacting with either Hrithik or the impersonator so why does the police need to record her statement?” Siddiquee said.
Siddiquee, who also mentioned in his statement that that Kangana has “reserved her right to file a criminal complaint against Hrithik for hacking into her email,” said that he would be initiating such action “soon”.
