'Shaandaar': Why we're looking forward to Shahid and Alia on screen

© Provided by India Today Shahid Kapoor and Alia Bhatt are gearing up for their next release Shaandaar. As the film nears its release, everybody is going gaga over this shaandaar jodi – Shahid and Alia. This is the first time that Shahid and Alia have been paired together on the silver screen. Ever since the official trailer of Shahid Kapoor and Alia Bhatt’s Shaandaar was released, viewers cannot stop gushing about their chemistry.

While among the new crop of actors, some on-screen pairs like Ranveer-Deepika and Varun-Alia are on their way to becoming our all-time favourites, it’s always refreshing to see new actors come together and treat viewers to some crackling chemistry on film. If Shaandaar works well, Shalia (Shahid and Alia) might just become one of the most popular on-screen jodis of the industry. From the first look to the promotions, their chemistry is to look out for.

All through the promotions, Shahid and Alia have been very comfortable with each other. There was nothing forced about their equation off screen, and the two made for a fun young couple. At one of the promotional events, Alia even answered on Shahid’s behalf when the latter was asked about the most shaandaar gift he received after his marriage to Mira Rajput. Alia was quick to answer, “One second. Shahid’s shaandaar shaadi is done, and now we will only talk about the marriage in Shaandaar.”

On his part, Shahid came to her rescue when the two had to get through some exceptionally tricky dance sequences. Shahid turned instructor for Alia while shooting for the songs Gulaabo and Nazdeekiyan, making sure that her moves were perfect and clean.

Shahid and Alia are doing another film together. They will be seen in Udta Punjab next year. In an interview, Alia had been quoted as saying, “Doing Udta Punjab was a big deal for me. I am an admirer of Shahid ever since I saw Ishq Vishk. He has cute dimples, he is a very good dancer and a very good actor. He has a happy vibe.”

The last time Shahid was seen this comfortable with a co-star, both on and off screen, was probably during Jab We Met. Shahid was paired with Kareena Kapoor Khan in the 2007 film, and the two got along like a house on fire. The sparks on film were hand-delivered by the two to real life too, despite the fact that Shahid and Kareena ended their relationship just before the release of the film. Now, it is a coincidence that Shahid and Alia’s Shaandaar has been scheduled to release in the same week as his 2007 hit Jab We Met.

Alia is often compared to Shahid’s ex-girlfriend Kareena when it comes to her career in the film industry. At the trailer launch of Shaandaar, Shahid was asked about similarities between Alia and Kareena, to which he answered, “It is a big compliment for Alia that we are talking about similarities between her and Kareena. I think there is no comparison or similarities as they are different and have both done phenomenal work. Both are fantastic.” He also added, “Kareena is an established actor, and Alia is also doing good with the kind of films that she has done. The only common connection is both Jab We Met and Shaandaar are love stories.”

Not just Alia and Kareena, Shahid has been paired opposite actors like Vidya Balan, Priyanka Chopra and Sonakshi Sinha. With all of them, people had said that Shahid looked ‘younger’ than his co-star. Not the case this time. This is also one of the reasons which makes this new jodi one of the popular jodis to look out for. And even Shahid’s wife Mira has approved of Shahid and Alia’s chemistry.

The duo will be playing insomniacs, and the film is about an Indian family who land in London for a destination wedding where Shahid Kapoor’s character is a wedding planner. As of now, viewers are all eager to see this Shaandaar pair in theatres this Dussehra.
